A Useful Website For Picking Pleasing Color Combinations
You do not have to be a graphic designer or creator of web pages to need to make appropriate choices. Perhaps you are scrap-booking your favorite pictures or creating a newsletter for your church or developing a presentation for your office, selecting color combinations that work visually is what Colors On The Web is all about.
This is the most useful site I have found for creating anything that requires color sense. This site is dedicated to the use of colors in design, and it has separate sections on color theory, color combinations, and color psychology.
Using a color wheel, the site gives you examples of complimentary colors, opposite colors, and suggestions on using contrast for effect. But the best part of the site to me is the Color Wizard.
When you launch the color wizard, you are asked to provide the hex code for the color you want to begin using. If you do not know the hex code, you can move the three slider bars representing the primary colors until you find a shade you want.
For each shade, the wizard will show you variations on that shade based on hue, saturation and tint. It will also give you complimentary colors and color combinations that work.
You will find that most of the software you use for graphics including Photoshop and Office understand hexadecimal codes. So once you have made your choices, just enter the corresponding code into your software program and voilá.
