An Unbelievable Old Ad
I've always enjoyed "the headlines" part of Jay Leno's show. If you're not familiar with it, viewers send in real newspaper, articles and advertisements that have funny typos, mangled English, double entendres - that kind of thing. I've never seen anything but current examples of this kind of stuff.
However, last night Jay showed an old advertisement. Don't hold me to this but I think it was from the fifties.
This advertisement didn't have any typos or the usual stuff. However, the advertisement itself was … let's just say … UNBELIEVABLE.
It was an ad by a major corporation … in the not too distant past … that pitched Lysol as a feminine hygiene product.
I kid you not. LOL
The audience couldn't believe it … and Jay of course went to town on this - making jokes such as: 'This was of course before Black Flag was invented'. (That's not an exact quote but it's pretty close).
If nothing else, the ad is an interesting cultural artifact that shows just how much our attitudes about sex and women have changed - thank goodness!
