Creative Solutions For Staying Cool
Staying cool is pretty neat, considering the Sun is going to attempt to melt us off the planet thanks to our endeavors at destroying the Earth's protective layers. What's even more neat is that there is an actual competition about innovative architectural structures to stay cool, called the Heated Architecture Competition. Uh … I don't know why they didn't call it the Cooled Architecture Competition, but anyways.
What's even neater about this competition is that it wasn't created to have architects face off with the best designs to stay cool. No, this competition was a smart tactic to save money on providing shade and cool places for people attending a 10-week summer series of outdoor music concerts in Long Island City called Warm Up.
Now that's smart. From necessity (heat stroke and fun festivals don't mix well), concert organizers get other people to provide shade. Free. Cool. Not only that, organizers promote a benevolent attitude towards the world and gain a caring, environmentally-conscious reputation. Double-cool.
The participants in the competition get fame, their creation reaping blessing from hot music aficionados in need of sun relief, and the world gets to think over some pretty awesome cooling inventions to face off against global warming. I can't figure out if they win fortune to go with that fame, but hey. Isn't saving the world reward enough?
